Application and Installation Method of Ceramic Fiber Blanket in Pipeline Insulation

In many high-temperature fluid equipment pipelines, such as those found in urban heating system pipelines or chemical high-temperature fluid pipelines, insulation is required to reduce energy loss.

As a flexible insulation material that is heat-resistant, exhibits excellent insulation properties, and is cost-effective, ceramic fiber blankets naturally become an important choice for pipeline insulation.

However, if the ceramic fiber blanket is not installed using the correct construction methods, it can lead to energy and material wastage. Improper installation may also cause damage to equipment and pipelines, and in severe cases, could result in safety incidents.

The following are the correct installation steps:

  1. Clean the surface of the pipeline and remove old insulation material and debris.
  2. Cut the ceramic fiber blanket according to the pipe diameter (do not tear by hand, use a ruler and cutting tools).
  3. Wrap the blanket around the outer surface of the pipeline, ensuring it adheres closely to the pipe wall, and pay attention to joints being ≤5mm while maintaining a smooth surface.
  4. Bind with galvanized iron wire (binding spacing ≤200mm), do not continuously wrap the wire in a spiral manner, keep twisting joints short, and insert them into the blanket.
  5. For achieving the required thickness, layering may be necessary. Properly stagger and fill joints to ensure a smooth finish.

The selection of the metal protective layer should be based on the actual situation. Generally, materials like fiberglass cloth or galvanized iron sheet are used. The wrapped ceramic fiber blanket should be solid without gaps or leaks.

During construction, care should be taken to avoid stepping on or compressing the ceramic fiber blanket and try to prevent exposure to rainwater or moisture.
